THE FINE ART OF CAREER
IMPROVISATION
In order to create a resilient career you’ll need to get comfortable with “the
fine art of improvisation,” otherwise known as crossing your fingers and
taking a leap. Because so much in the healthcare and medical fields is
changing so continuously, there’s no permanent “right answer” for your
career, one you can count on and relax into for the rest of your working life.
Instead, there will most likely be a series of opportunities, either
unanticipated or ones you’ve created, that you can choose to grow into or
walk away from. That’s one of the great things about being a business of
one: as the boss, you get to decide. And sometimes the best decision’s
going to be that the time’s just not right to make that leap. But consider that
a resilient career is built on saying yes more often than no.
These are some of the characteristics of a resilient individual and an
adaptable nursing professional, one able to meet change and its frequent
opportunities with positive energy and positive ideas.
So, now that you’re ready for a terrific career as a nursing professional,
what choices will you make? Remember, you’re the boss of your business
of one!
