Acceptance of fear. As many have pointed out, courage isn’t the absence
of fear, but rather the ability to move forward despite your fear. In order
to create the career you’d like to have, you have to get comfortable with
moving beyond your comfort zone. One way to do that is to start with “small
wins,” taking on small fears, then continue to take on larger challenges
that push your confidence boundaries. Resiliency, and a resilient career,
requires the courage to grow, risk, fail, and rebound.
Commitment to self-motivation. If you wait for others to motivate you to
do the things that will bring you closer to your dream nursing career –
or even just create a better day for yourself – you’re putting control of
your happiness and outcomes in someone else’s hands. Knowing what
strategies or rewards will motivate you to overcome obstacles or even just
inertia will give you the life tools and confidence you need to move your
career forward.
