AN INTERVIEW WITH THE HOMEOWNER

When we first walked into our home we fell in love with it. It's a cozy beach cot-
tage that has been beautifully updated with a renovated kitchen and bath-
rooms. When we came into the open-plan living room/dining room, we were
amazed by the beautiful view of the Long Island Sound. We love having the pri-
vacy and warmth of the protected deck off the house, plus the patio on the
bluff that is just feet from the sand and water. The house has everything we want-
ed.

Our entire street is protected by a bluff built by the Army Corps of Engineers. As
a result, we had NO flooding during Sandy. Other storms have caused no dam-
age. When power was out for days in the interior of the town during the storm
Irene, we never lost power at all.

The feature that makes our home the most special is its location directly on the
beach. There is so much to do on the beach. We swim, take walks down to Sas-
co Point Beach, kayak down Pine Creek through the marshes to watch the water
birds, and make bonfires on the beach at night. It's a great place to live for peo-
ple like us who love the outdoors. The house itself is perfect for us. It's small
enough to heat & cool affordably and efficiently, and big enough to give us our
own spaces.

We have a very deep yard for a beach house. The walkway from the house to
the beach is landscaped with lavender plants that have fragrant blooms all sum-
mer long. There are two garden plots where we grow fresh vegetables, and a
smaller plot where we grow herbs. We have both a private deck that is protect-
ed from the wind and a patio on our bluff where we can sit in the sun and
breeze and enjoy the beach.
