KNOW YOUR MENU
One of the keys to great service is simply knowing your menu. A solid
knowledge of your menu will help to make your job easier. Make it
your mission to ensure you are familiar with every dish, every cocktail
and every wine on your list.
Here are some of the benefits of knowing your menu:
It saves you time
You’ll be able to answer guest’s queries on the spot instead of having
to check with the bar or a manager. You’ll also know the right follow
up questions to ask the guest. For example: large or small? With ice or
straight up? Chocolate or vanilla? Time is often wasted when we take
the order and then realise that we will have to find the guest to clarify.
Or worse still, we hazard a ‘guess’ as to what the guest wanted and
then have to remake the item because we guessed wrong!
It allows you to give great recommendations
Knowing your menu ensures you are able to accurately recommend
food and drinks that your guests will LOVE, making you their favourite
person ever.
It helps you to up-sell appropriately
As part of the Cowch team you are integral to the success and
profitability of the venue as well as ensuring the guest has the best
experience possible. Knowing your menu allows you to up-sell
appropriately, perhaps suggesting a chocolate shot to have on the side
of waffles or adding strawberries to a particular dessert pizza.
It will minimise guest complaints
If you know your menu, you can help the guests make the right
choices which will avoid guest complaints and in turn, save you time.
You will appear super competent and professional
The more competent you are, the more the guest will relax. A relaxed
guest is a happy guest. A happy guest is a joy to serve.
