THE ASHLEY BOOK OF KNOTS
2436. The SHAMROCK KNOT. With a single cord arrange three
loops and the two standing parts into the form of a cross. Arrange
symmetrically and crown the loops and ends to the right, the two
ends being worked as a unit. Without turning the structure over,
reverse the direction of the ends and loops and crown them back to
the left. This completes the SHAMROCK KNOT as shown in the third
diagram.
2437. To make a knot of seven loops from the same start, extend
each of the four close bights indicated by the arrows in the third
diagram of '112436. Arrange them symmetrically, in the form of the
fourth diagram.
2438. A THREE-PETAL KNOT with a cuboid center is made from the
same start. Crown as in the first diagram of '# 2436. Having drawn this
up snugly as in the third diagram, turn the sttUcture over and crown
again reversely. The second erown will cover the bights that are
evident in the third diagram of '# 2436, giving the knot an entirely
different character.
2439. A knot of four loops: Arrange a cord with four equal loops
and with the two legs parallel. Crown the loops only, to the right.
Then, keeping the structure the same side up, arrange the cord as
shown in the second diagram and crown a second time, this time to
the left. The completed knot is soown in the third diagram.
24 3& The three bights that are closely drawn around the center
of KNOT '# 2439 may be extended to make a SEVEN-PETAL KNOT that
is somewhat different from '#2437. If the legs of the present knot
were included in the original crown, an arrangement is made, similar
to KNOT '#2437, which will have nine petals.
2441. If a knot of two loops only is to be crowned, employ the
ends as well as the loops. The resultant knot will have three close
bights and two forked loops extending from a double triangular
crown.
