FANCY KNOTS
2442. If the three close bights are extended, a LEAF-SHAPED KNOT
of five loops is formed, which is shown as the final drawing on this
page.
The knots of this series make decorative terminals that are effective
on the ends of window-shade pulls, electric-light pulls, curtain and
bell cords, and dress and hat trimmings.
2443. A knot somewhat similar to the last may be made by crown-
ing three loops without engaging the ends, and then reversing and
crowning the loops a second time on the same side of the structure. 244'}
If the two close bights are extended the knot will have five petals.
2444. A knot of five loops crowned without engaging the ends.
The loops are crowned a second time in the reverse direction. The
four bights may be extended if desired so that the knot will appear
as in the right diagram with nine loops. If the legs are crowned as
well as the loops a larger knot with a center crown of six parts will
result.

2445. An interesting knot with three well-rounded marginal loops
and a double four-part crown center. This knot does not promise
much until it is nearly finished. Then it suddenly becomes compact
and regular. Except that it has a double center and single loops, it is 2444
similar in character to 'If, 2451. Its structure may be compared with
~2435, which was evolved first and upon which this knot was based.
2446. A JAPANESE KNOT with a single four-part crown center and
two opposite loops.
2447. The VIOLET. This is from a French book, and was ascribed
to Japan. After the knot has been formed, as in the left diagram, the
parts marked with arrows are extended to form petals and the other
parts are contracted.
