who they actually are in order to live in a new society. However,
every sign on MRT is available in every language based on their
population including English for tourists and new generations, Chinese
for majority, and Malay and Arabic for minority. According to the
example, it reflects how people respect and live with each other.
Everyone can be or do everything in their desired ways. Since the
majority speaks particularly Chinese, yet, they do not set some
languages (Singlish or Chinese) to dominate other languages (Malay
along with Arabic).
According to languages in public sphere, we can say that
every culture is unique in Singapore. Therefore, it can link to
performance studies. Living in Singapore can be compared to
performance as everyone from different cultures can live their lives
in Singapore without changing or emerging who they actually are into
a new society. Every culture represents dissimilar characters of a
movie called “Singapore”. To illustrate, since the major population is
Chinese, Chinese people can perform their role as a group of people
who does not attack or dominate other groups properly. They respect
other groups of people; at the same time, they can keep their cultural
identity exists in the society without devaluing or governing their
neighbors. Besides, Malay together with Arabian population in
Singapore can play their roles as migrant residents freely. They do
not need to get rid of who they are to please or celebrate the
majority; so that they can live in Singapore. Malay and Arabian
population can independently run their community. In short, every
performer in “Singapore movie” impersonates their roles according to
their cultural diversity impressively.
