6.1 Internet Quick-Start
Chapter 6: General Procedures
6.1 Internet Quick-Start
In a typical installation where the MedPlus TotalAlert™ Alarm Network is
connected to an existing network that already includes a computer system (E),
network server (G), and in some cases a network router (H), do the following
(see figure 6-1 on page 6-7):
1. Connect the Ethernet Cable (A) from each Master Alarm (B) and Area
Alarm Network Communications Board (C) to a hub or switch (D).
NOTE:
It is best to use a switch because the devices only communicate at 10 megabits.
A switch improves the facility's network performance and keeps unnecessary
traffic from being routed to the alarm.
2. Power-up the MedPlus TotalAlert™ Alarm Network. The devices obtain
IP addresses from a Network Server, and discover the other alarm devices
on the same network automatically.
1
3. Start an Internet browser, such as E-Microsoft Internet Explorer® 4 or
2
Netscape Navigator® 4, from a computer that is on the existing network.
1. E-Microsoft Internet Explorer® is a registered trademark of Microsoft Corporation.
2. Netscape Navigator® is a registered trademark of Netscape Communications Corp.
