“I love to see people’s eyes light up when they come in here and see all the beautiful things. They are stepping across a threshold that might help them forget difficulties in their lives.
San Volunteers have always put their heart and soul into everything they’ve done and made the Hospital feel special. COVID has been tough since they’ve had to stay away. The opening of San Gifts was a new way of engaging. It’s the emotions the gifts inspire that create the magic.
As soon as they come in you can see how they look more at peace. Patients can be distracted from their pain, carers can find something to comfort or show love, staff have an easy go-to for family gifts when they are busy.
They’re attracted by the colour but it’s the empathy, the genuine interest
and the connection that means they’re smiling as they ”
leave. It’s a special space. It’s another place to show we care.
