Under the Oak Canopy - Plant Care for Your New Landscape





                                                    Plant Name:    Bi-color Iris,  African

                                                                 Iris, Dietes Bicolor

                                                 An evergreen, clump-forming and self -

                                                 sowing iris, with graceful sword like foliage

                                                 resembling ornamental grass.

                                                 Yellowish blooms last for one day.


                Plant Size:  2 1/2-3’ tall and wide



                Evergreen/Deciduous: Evergreen, freeze hardy to 15-20
                degrees F.



                Light Needs:  Full sun to shade

               Watering: Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing


                season to establish a deep, extensive root system.  On irrigation

                system, one inch a week of water.  A water wise plant.


                Blooms: Yellow, spring to fall



                Key feature: Easy care.  Attracts butterflies, deer resistant.

                Pruning:    If you need to cut it back, cut from the base of the roots,

                about 4-5” above and straight across the plant.  It regrows from the

                plants root base.
