definitely taught, but the focus is on illustrating them by having the students participate in
experiments and activities. We have found that this structure causes the students to remember
much more of what is taught than simply having them read a textbook and then listen to the
material presented in the same way in class.
These factors combined place Quest at the same level as the best college preparatory institutions
in Tucson. Having been homeschooled since kindergarten, Quest has given me important
socialization and education opportunities that would have been difficult, if not impossible, to
achieve at home. From beginning music and dance classes to advanced courses that are rarely
taken in high school such as vector calculus and organic chemistry, Quest provides an array of
experiences that are simply not found elsewhere and allow students to go above and beyond their
peers in pursuing their interests. As a Quest graduate and recipient of the Bilodeau Prize, I am
immensely grateful for my time with Quest and excited to see what lies ahead for this innovative,
vibrant, and unique organization offering classes in a huge variety of disciplines that teach
students not just what to think but how and why.
