Junior/Senior Honors English (Literature Emphasis) (HS, 9  & 10  by approval) - **May Be

              Offered 2019-2020**. This course is for 11th and 12th grade students to prepare them to take the
              AP English Language and Composition or AP English Literature and Composition exams in May.
              This course will be heavily concentrated on independent reading, close analysis of both fiction
              and nonfiction text, and collegiate level composition. Students will be reading non-fiction articles
              and composing essays every week in addition to maintaining an individual reading log of at least
              two novels per semester. Prior to the start of the school year, students taking this course must
              read E.B. White’s Elements of Style, and either Bleak House or A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles
              Dickens, and submit a two-page analysis of the way Dickens develops the reader’s favorite
              character. This is due on the first day of this course. Required Texts: pending Instructor: Eric

               Drama 1 (All Ages - Must Be Able to Read Proficiently and Supply Costumes for
              Performances) - This year- long, foundational course, designed for students with little or no
              theatre experience, promotes enjoyment and appreciation for all aspects of theatre.
              Coursework focuses on the exploration of theatre literature, performance, historical and
              cultural connections, and technical requirements. Improvisation, creative dramatics, and
              beginning scene work are used to introduce students to acting and character
              development. Incorporation of other art forms in theatre also helps students gain appreciation
              for other arts, such as music, dance, and visual art. Drama provides opportunities for students
              to develop skills in critical listening and thinking, as well as stage presence, ensemble work,
              and aesthetic awareness culminating in periodic classroom and/or public performances. There
              will be opportunities to audition for parts in this production course. You will need to be
              available during the production session times to audition/participate.  Instructor: Rachel Dircks

               Advanced Drama Production (MS & HS– Must have 2 years of Drama courses) - This
              course builds on the foundations of Drama. Must be able to provide own costumes for
              performance. Auditions, Monologues and scene work will be a focus. Instructor: Rachel Dircks
