Greater Zion has much to offer the adventur-
ous spirit. With more than 35 hiking trails, Zion
National Park has endless possibilities for both
the casual and the seasoned hiker. I had the
opportunity to hike a local’s favorite backcoun-
try trail, Eagles Crag, which is off the beaten
path, just outside of Zion National Park. There
are several opportunities for hikers to stop
along the trail and soak in the gorgeous views of
the mouth of Zion Canyon. For the novice hiker,
I highly recommend booking a guided hike
with Zion Adventure Company. Our certified
guide pointed out some incredible landmarks
throughout the hike. On the way to the start of
the trail, hikers can take a small detour to check
out Grafton Ghost Town. Settled by Mormons
in the late 1800s, this now-abandoned frontier
town has been used for various films.

Aside from the incredible hiking terrain, there
is so much more to explore. Greater Zion is
home to the “most incredible bouldering, cany-
oneering, mountain biking, and a big rock wall
climbing that rivals anywhere else in the world,”
says Lewis. Appearances from some of the
most elite athletes like Scottish cycler Danny
MacAskill frequent the Zion area. However,
there is also much to offer the less athletic such
as myself. Less than thirty minutes from the
entrance of Zion National Park is Sand Hollow
State Park, a water oasis surrounded by miles of
orange sand dunes, perfect for a fun day of ATV
riding or off-roading. ATV & Jeep Adventure
Tours offer guided ATV tours at Sand Hollow
State Park. The company provides any gear
you may need, from eye protection to helmets
to gloves. As a novice to ATV riding, I was a
bit apprehensive at the start of the tour, how-
ever, our certified guide was extremely helpful
and able to modify the experience for the first-
time rider like myself. The spectacular views of
the diverse mountain ranges, lakes, and dunes,
made for an adventure of a lifetime.
