SHOEFLY
A NEW WOMEN’S SHOE SHOP
ydney Mitchell owns a shoe shop in Juneau, Alaska called
SShoefly Alaska. Commenting on opening her Oregon shoe shop
in downtown Grants Pass, she says, “Opening in a pandemic is
either crazy or brilliant and only time will tell." She’s hoping for
brilliant, and is willing to put in the work to achieve her goals.
She and her husband own a vacation home in the Grants Pass area,
and she had noticed that while local women were wearing great
shoes, there weren’t a lot of local options. So, in mid-February,
she and husband Alan and son Mckenzie began building shelves
and designing the workspace for their G Street location, plan-
ning an April 1 opening. Then COVID-19 hit, and she returned to
Juneau to stabilize Shoefly Alaska for its new normal.
In the beginning of September, Sydney loaded up LARGE MARGE, her trusty van, and headed to Midday Mugs
Oregon. Despite a pandemic, torrential rain (72 consecutive days of rain in Juneau), rampant fires
in Southern Oregon, and a death in the family, she pushed through and opened Shoefly Oregon. ____________________
"It took a lot of love and support from friends, family and landlords to get Shoefly Oregon off the Alex Apland studio
ground, and I will be eternally grateful.” Grants Pass
Sydney believes girls and women are worthy of respect, kindness, and best-friend service, and she
operates her two stores on that basis, searching out shoes that offer the best fit, comfort, style,
and price.
