term value of the many options available to homeowners in
the design and build process. “We’re not just out to spend
their money. Our goal is to build them what they want, with-
out having them house-poor at the end.”
Sometimes though, not every decision is based on money. As an exam-
ple, rather than leaving the crawlspace under this new home as the
standard earth and retaining wall, he suggested a different option. The
retaining wall was moved further out, and that space has become an
enclosed bonus area that houses all the home’s systems and can also
serve as a wine cellar or a bonus room. It’s a design choice that has
added to the home’s use and value in very tangible ways.
It’s the variety and opportunity of each new build that keeps Adderson
enthusiastic about the work he does. “I enjoy so many elements of the
construction world. I get to meet new people and have the opportu-
nity to work on all types of projects, each presenting me with new
challenges. I welcome being pushed to think out of the box when
