The estate vineyard is magnificent to behold, especially in September Editor’s note: While this is Del Rio Vineyards’ story, it beautifully reflects the

hikes through the amphitheater of vines. The outward beauty of the
land only serves as the seductive book cover to an intricate family-run
operation.
The first grape harvest was in 2000. Rob Wallace, managing partner,
headed north with a list of wineries to call on. Gradually, Rob estab-
lished relationships with many wineries throughout the state and began
shipping fruit. His goal: growth. The next step was to build a win-
ery and create a brand. In 2004, the winery opened; in 2008, the Del
Rio label launched into distribution. Now, the winery produces three
brands: Del Rio Vineyards, Rock Point Wines and Jolee Wines.
The view across the Rock Point Bridge has changed immensely over the
past 20 years. The Rogue Valley’s largest vineyard is accompanied by an
iconic red barn, a landmark tasting room converted from an historic
stagecoach stop, and a field of zinnias for public picking. The company
has grown in leaps and bounds, a leader in the Southern Oregon wine
industry, and yet remains grounded in its roots of heritage and family.
This is a place to visit, and yes, try the wine, but also to sit back and
enjoy conversations. The family workplace mentality extends beyond
the employees to the guests. You will feel right at home, and you might
just leave with a hug and a bottle.
