his familiar expression is a derivation of God is in the details.
This version most likely originated in the 1800s and at times
is attributed to German-born architect Ludwig Mies van der
TRohebut. It’s hard to verify the exact origin, but I love this
phrase. It’s something we use all the time in interior design, and when
things are done right, done correctly, the results speaks for themselves.
This time worn phrase refers to problems or difficulties that result from
the unforeseen nature of unexamined details. Door and cabinet hardware
for your home can present challenges if not fully considered regarding
their function, aesthetic, and long-term usage. Have you ever applied door
pulls in a kitchen only to have them loosen or come off a few years later?
Or how about seeing a square backplate on door hardware that looks a lit-
tle crooked or shifts when you turn the knob? That stuff drives me crazy!
On the flipside, entering a home with heavy, beautiful, hand- forged front
door hardware, or seeing a kitchen with solid, perfectly scaled pulls and
knobs is truly a thing of beauty. Seeing the living patina on a bronze pull
after years of use is a quiet and understated statement about the lives
shared in a home over time.
And now, we have an amazing company in our valley, Sailer Design
Hardware, that can provide you with full service in selecting the right
hardware for your home. Dana Sailer understands every aspect of the
industry, and provided design for homes from Santa Barbara to Sausalito
before moving with her family to Southern Oregon. We are now so fortu-
nate to have this resource here in the Rogue Valley.
