honored a commitment to make the garden ADA
compliant. His design relocated the Tori Gate
(added to the garden in 2015) to the north side
of the garden to properly honor the traditional
beliefs of the Shinto religion. Construction began
in 2020. The formal reopening of the Ashland
Japanese Garden will take place in October 2022.
The garden will be dedicated to Béatrice
Marechal in the hope that others will find the joy
she found in the beauty, peace, and nature of this
very special place.
Features of the garden include The Gathering
Place, The Gate, The Path, the Natural Garden, the
Bamboo Forest, the Tea House, the Watercourse,
the Waterfall, the Sand and Stone Garden, and the
Deck. See website for formal reopening.
