Head of School
Joanne Shango is the founder and Head of School at The Montessori School Rochester (The MSR), located in Rochester Hills, Michigan and co-founder of The Global Montessori Network (GMN). With 200 students, the school offers programs for children from 3 months of age through 6th grade.
Joanne graduated from Mercy High School in Farmington Hills, and studied at The University of Michigan with a concentration in Painting and Drawing in Fine Arts (BFA) program. She is Montessori certified in Primary and Adolescence through 12th grade and holds certifications from both the American Montessori Society (AMS) and the Association Montessori International (AMI.)
Joanne founded the MSR in 2010, in response to the need and demand for Montessori education in the area. She is dedicated to meeting the needs of her students, and is continuously challenging herself professionally, so that she can accommodate their special qualities and uniqueness. She inspires genius; leads with kindness and compassion and creates magical environments within the school which attract the best in class; staff and faculty.
Joanne co-found The Global Montessori Network (GMN) in March 2020 as a response to the COVID-19 crisis the world was facing. The mission of The GMN is to provide connections and support as global communities are asked to practice social distance. Providing a platform to offer Montessori education to the children of other Montessori schools, and support for families in collaboration with the best minds in Montessori education. She also works with mentoring groups in Montessori Leaders and Teaching Professionals internationally.
It is her passion to create a customized environment for gifted and with special needs students, so that they can thrive, while still protecting their emotional growth. Joanne believes this will ultimately inspire students to fully grow into their own personal potential.
