SPECIAL NOTES:
• This intervention is not appropriate for all residents and, in fact can be harmful if not
properly monitored and administered.
• Each resident must have clinical justification to begin as well as to discontinue this
intervention.
• This is not a substitute for, nor reduces the importance of adequate oral intake at meals.
