               5. Prevention of pregnancy: questions should be gender appropriate and you may

determine the patient is at risk of becoming pregnant or fathering a child.

               Religious or Ethnic Differences

                   • Explain the purpose and not judge their beliefs of religion.
                   • Remind information is private.
                   • For use of medication, explain medical necessity/benefit and consequences of not using.
                   • For unsafe “medication” or herbal explain research performed (or not) and potential
                       expectations from use.
o Don’t think that you are better than them. Not judging their beliefs but explain
what you have, your data with evidence-based support otherwise they will not
believe you. Sometimes you can’t convince them about that. Ask them about their
fear, their belief, and most of the time it is based on their personal thinking, their
personal belief that you have to respect and don’t judge but at the same time you
would try your very best to give them information if they need it.
o A lot of people are now using Herbal as well so a lot of time they have
contraindication with the medicines you need to give them information that is
based on research not based on your own belief or thinking. Any potential harm
let them know. They have the right to know whether they will take it or not but it
                              is your job.
