Parkside Football Club 1897/2017
He was a handy all-rounder for Footscray Colts in the former Footscray Cricket Association. He
played in two A Turf competition premierships and once captured 9/39 with his tricky medium
pacers. Geoff and Chris Rees were best mates. “There wasn't much we didn't do together except
when he played indoor cricket," she said.
Rees was a devoted father, providing a taxi service and sideline support for his netball loving
daughters.
He also ran the family’s roofing repairs business.
Rees was extremely proud of his fine career with the Magpies. He was especially chuffed the day he
played his 350th game (against Albion at Albion in 1985). Supporters made a giant banner for him to
run through.
With his Parkside teammates and supporters cheering him on, games record holder Geoff Rees burst
through the banner to mark his 350 games with his beloved Magpies in 1985.
Sadly, he was forced to hang up the boots later that season after the detection of a problem with his
heart.
Rees also played five games with the Footscray under 19s in 1969 before returning to Parkside.
He missed his mates too much.
Rest in peace, Geoff Rees.”
