Round four was headlined by blockbuster match between Parkside and Port Colts.
Steve Milne wrote this report for The Advetiser,
“It was the final roll of the dice.
Scores were level in the FDFL first division blockbuster between the unbeaten Parkside and Port
Colts at the Merv Hughes Oval on Saturday.
There was under a minute to play.
It was spine-tingling stuff.
The Borough attacked.
Full forward Jason Clarke led out hard to grab a fine mark.
With 36 seconds left on the clock, the pressure on Clarke was immense.
But Clarke was equal to the task, coolly threading the match winning goal at the Maribyrnong River
end of the ground.
He raised his arms in triumph before being besieged by excited teammates.
Jason Clarke is back doing what he does best — ruling the goalsquare for Port Colts.
Clarke has enjoyed some unforgettable moments against the Magpies.
He kicked 10 goals against them in 1997. He looks certain to kick many more for the Borough this
season.
Few will be more important than his fourth goal on Saturday though — and few wins sweeter for the
top-of-the-ladder Port Colts.
Vanquished Parkside coach Phil O.'Keeffe was full of praise for his side. "We, aren't far off the mark,"
he said. Port Colts won, but it could've gone any way.
O'Keeffe was quick to add he believed the local football scene was the big winner.
