Parkside Football Club 1897/2017

“In those days we used to travel all over the place. We might have been playing at Broadmeadows
one week and then out at Kew the next and Alphington the week after that.”

He got to talking with popular Footscray hairdresser Henry Turner.

“I used to stick the Parkside teams up in his window for everybody to see,” Mr Pascarl said.

Mr Pascarl got the ball rolling for the new football league by visiting all of the local clubs and pubs.

“Everywhere I thought I could get somebody interest in having a team,” he said.

“Recruitment over ale – it worked like a charm.”

FDFL chiefs paid tribute to Mr Pascarl’s lifetime of involvement by naming by the medal awarded to
the best on the ground in the first division grand final in his honor several years ago.

The Herb Pascarl Medal is one of the FDFL’s most prestigious awards.

“I was rapt, I thought it was great,” he said.

FDFL president Mr Rex Swann describes Mr Pascarl as a “living legend of the league.”

“He’s a real nice fella, a real gentleman,” Mr Swann said.
