So strong was his connection to the club, a pavilion was named after him.

So passionate was he about sports that he was also made an honorary life member of the Western
Region Football League.

He was also one of the Altona Lifesaving Club's first lifesavers.

Mr Pascarl's love of sport was recognised by the Queen, receiving an Australian Sports Medal in
2000.

The former Footscray Football Club member was also active in charity work, championing causes
such as the Royal Children's Hospital.

His only daughter Helen Rodriquez described her father as very quick-wined, a positive thinker and
very intelligent.

"He also just loved people, especially young people." she said.

Mr Pascarl is survived by Helen, son-in-law Barry and grand-daughter Nina.”

A founder of western suburbs football has the Parkside Football Club pavilion named in his honor.

“The 2000 players that front up each week to play in the Footscray District Football League have a
lot to thank Herb Pascarl for.

Mr Pascarl, now 86, who lives in Gordon Street, Footscray, was one of five men who started the
League back in 1931.

He was just 23 years old and a player with the Parkside Football Club when he, well-known Footscray
barber Henry Turner, Harry Kemp, Fred Reid and Alan Shepherd (who later became a state member
of parliament) met in October 1930 to discuss the idea of a local football competition.
