Parkside Football Club 1897/2017
Obituary
Herb Pascarl 1908-2002
By Steven Milne
“The incredible spirit of the “greatest Parksider of all,” Herb Pascarl will live on at the Parkside
Football Club.
That's the message from club life member Neville O'Connor, who shared many magic moments over
ale with the great man.
"He lived for the club —for Parkside. It was his life. He was the club."
"He was a marvellous man," O'Connor said.
"I never heard Herbie say a bad word about anyone. He was quick-wined ... He loved his football
trips."
Happily, the pavilion at Parkside's home ground (the Merv Hughes Oval) bears the Pascarl name.
Pascarl was also one of the favourite sons of the Western Region Football League (formerly the
Footscray District Football League).
He was a driving force behind the formation of the then FDFL in 1931.
Once a Parksider, Always a Parksider
