Double Butterfly Coil

The quickest way to coil rope, when simple speed is
an absolute priority, is the double butterfly coil. Since
it enwraps two strands of rope as it coils, it is twice
as fast as any alternative method. However, since the
rope is aligned at the rope ends to start and stacks all
the subsequent wraps accordingly, it can cause more
             frequent slipknots during the uncoiling/pre-climb
rope stacking process. Usually this is not a tremen-
dous encumbrance, but this process is almost always
less timely than a rope that initially coiled with single
strands. As a result, a double butterfly coil might be
a great choice when making a quick retreat from a
climb, when the rope will no longer be needed during
the climbing outing, and when time is a factor.
