Elusive peace
treaty, signed an agreement about the expansion of self-rule in Palestine and also called upon their elections to be more democratic. However, Rabin’s time did not last long as he was assassinated shortly after. Many peace treaties and peace talks between the two sides continued to be sabotaged by extremists. For example, in May of 1999, the leader of the Labor Party, Ehud Barak, pledged to help stop the constant war between the two sides and achieve long lasting peace in the region. He was not able to come to an agreement with Barak and Afarat and therefore peace in the region remains elusive.
Currently, there are many issues that need to be resolved in the region. The borders and division of land must be resolved, the strong emotions related towards conflict must be decreased, Palestinian concerns over Israel in the West Bank must be halted, the status of Jerusalem must be concrete, and the security of both states should be increased and borders should remain safe of violence. Considering the failure of the two sides to complete a peace treaty on their own, other countries such as Germany, France, Jordan, and Egypt have come together to discuss peace treaties. On January 11th of this year, they sent foreign ministers to meet and discuss different ways to promote peace in the region. They say they have come up with many different ideas to promote peace, but have the intention of running it through the administration of Joe Biden first. Palestine had not been very fond of being involved with the US in the past because Donald Trump had been seen as too biased towards Israel, however the four diplomats from their respective countries know the US must be involved.
Many countries have gotten involved in the conflict between Israel and Palestine. To begin, the USA has long sought to create a diplomatic solution to the conflict between these two states. The United States, under President Trump’s government, was biased towards Israel in foreign
