1 Samuel 12:22                                  227                                 1 Samuel 14:2

               after vaine things which cannot profite you, nor that the Philistims gathered themselues together
               deliuer you, for they are but vanitie)  22  For the to Michmash,  12 Therefore said I, The Philistims
               Lord will not forsake his people for his great    will come downe nowe vpon me to Gilgal, and I
               Names sake: because it hath pleased the Lord to   haue not made supplication vnto the Lord. I was
               make you his people.    23  Moreouer God forbid,  bolde therefore and offred a burnt offring.  13 And
               that I should sinne against the Lord, and cease   Samuel saide to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly:
               praying for you, but I will shewe you the good and  thou hast not kept the commandement of the
               right way.  24 Therefore feare you the Lord, and  Lord thy God, which he commanded thee: for
               serue him in the trueth with all your hearts, and  the Lord had nowe stablished thy kingdome vpon
               consider howe great things he hath done for you.  Israel for euer.  14  But nowe thy kingdom shall
               25 But if ye doe wickedly, ye shall perish, both yee,  not continue: the Lord hath sought him a man
               and your King.                                    after his owne heart, and the Lord hath com-
                                                                 manded him to be gouernour ouer his people,
                                     13                          because thou hast not kept that which the Lord
                  1  Saul nowe had beene King one yeere, and he  had commanded thee.    15  And Samuel arose, and
               reigned two yeeres ouer Israel. Then Saul chose   gate him vp from Gilgal in Gibeah of Beniamin:

               him three thousand of Israel: and two thousande   and Saul nombred the people that were found

               were with Saul in Michmash, and in mount Beth-    with him, about sixe hundreth men.          And
               el, and a thousande were with Ionathan in Gibeah  Saul and Ionathan his sonne, and the people
               of Beniamin: and the rest of the people he sent   that were found with them, had their abiding in

               euery one to his tent. And Ionathan smote the     Gibeah of Beniamin: but the Philistims pitched
               garison of the Philistims, that was in the hill: and  in Michmash.  17 And there came out of the hoste
               it came to the Philistims eares: and Saul blewe   of the Philistims three bandes to destroie, one
               the trumpet throughout all the land, saying,      bande turned vnto the way of Ophrah vnto the
               Heare, O yee Ebrewes.  4  And al Israel heard say,  lande of Shual, 18 And another bad turned toward
                                                                 the way to Beth-horon, and the third band turned
               Saul hath destroied a garison of the Philistims:  toward the way of the coast that looketh toward
               wherefore Israel was had in abomination with
               the Philistims: and the people gathered together  the valley of Zeboim, towarde the wildernesse.

               themselues together to fight with Israel, thirty  all the land of Israel: for the Philistims sayde,

               when the men of Israel saw that they were in a    21  Yet they had a file for the shares, and for the
               strait(forthepeoplewereindistresse)thepeople mattockes, and for the picke forkes, and for the
               hid themselues in caues, and in holdes, and in axes, and for to sharpen the goades.  22 So whe the

               taried seuen daies, according vnto the time that  there founde.  23 And the garison of the Philistims
               Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to      came out to the passage of Michmash.
               Gilgal, therefore the people were scattered from

               him. And Saul sayde, Bring a burnt offering to                          14
               me and peace offrings: and he offered a burnt
               offering.  10 And assoone as hee had made an ende   1  Then on a day Ionathan the sonne of Saul
               of offering the burnt offering, beholde, Samuel   sayde vnto the yong man that bare his armour,
               came: and Saul went foorth to meete him, to       Come and let vs goe ouer towarde the Philistims
               salute him.   11  And Samuel saide, What hast     garison, that is yonder on the other side, but
               thou done? Then Saul saide, Because I sawe he tolde not his father.          2  And Saul taried in
               that the people was scattred from me, and that the border of Gibeah vnder a pomegranate tree,
               thou camest not within the daies appoynted, and which was in Migron, and the people that were
