REVEREND MILES FOY (1811-1895)
MILES FOY was born May 21, 1811 in Onslow County, North Carolina. He was the
son of ENOCH FOY who was a son of JAMES FOY, SR. ENOCH FOY was a
brother to LEWIS FOY, the father of BENJAMIN FRANKLIN FOY, the father of
JOHN ELON FOY.
MILES FOY was a Methodist minister. He was licensed to preach on January 1,
1829 at the age of eighteen. He expounded the word of God throughout the state of
North Carolina and parts of Virginia. In 1881 he was superannuated ( a fancy word
for retired due to age) and moved to Mount Airy, N.C. where he lived until his death
on March 10, 1895.
MILES was married three times. Wife number one was Martha B. Hawk. They had
no children. Wife number two was Micky Ann Graces. They had four children, Mary,
William Graves, Emma Caroline, and John Henry. His third wife was a widow,
Selena Hill Nelson. They had one child, Edward Crawford.
I start this section of the book with MILES FOY, not only because he is worthy of the
honor, but because I have a photograph of him thanks to one of his descendants,
ROBIN FOY, who has done extensive research regarding the FOY family in America.
