gates, with a central cartouche containing
the initials ‘FH’, surrounded with a border
enclosing foliate motifs and further leisure
scenes, the box similarly decorated, the
interior with seven fitted box and covers and
twelve painted card trays. 38cm (15in) wide

Incised and painted in the tones of red, brown
and orange with writhing five-clawed dragons
chasing flaming pearls amongst clouds and
above tumultuous waves, framed by lappet
bands, key-fret borders and archaistic angular
scrolling designs.
