A SANCAI-GLAZED ARCHAISTIC

19th century
The bulging mid-section with moulded Shou
characters, the facetted borders with the
attributes of the Eight Daoist Immortals, the
flaring foot and neck with elaborate stiff-
leaf lappets, the mouth rim with a ruyi-head
border. 60cm (23 5/8in) high
£1,000 - 2,000
CNY9,200 - 18,000
HK$11,000 - 22,000
Provenance
The O. du Sartel collection (label)
Monsieur O. du Sartel was the author of the
book on Chinese porcelain, La Porcelaine
de Chine published in France in 1881.
There is also a secondary label on the base
cataloguing the present lot as Ming Dynasty,
Jiajing, 1522-1566, but recent scholarship
would suggest this type of sancai-style ware
dates from the 19th century.
