CHEONG SHING
21, Nanking Road, ShangHai
circa 1905-1940
Obviously one of the many luxury goods
emporia that abounded in the late 19th
century in Hong Kong, Shanghai and
other Chinese cities, but reading this
Cheong Shing advertisement, one gets
the impression there’s an entrepreneurial
force at the helm.
In order to survive amongst this highly
competitive market, Cheong Shing seems
to have achieved that by playing safe but
doing it with well and with panache.
The 4-piece tea set and tray [below]
demonstrates this well.
