            But then Gothic K can spring surprises and was perfectly capable of creating more classical Western forms,
            albeit  in  this  instance  [above]  a  pair  of  circa  1850  salvers  that  have  been  decorated  with  high  relief  work

            grapevine border at the rim. Each salver sits upon three fluted ball feet.!

                                                                                 The  detailing  of  the  bamboo
                                                                                 culmes  rooted  into  the  ground
                                                                                 belong  to  a  Gothic  K  goblet
                                                                                 [following  illustration].  Using
                                                                                 three bamboo stems to support
                                                                                 a  goblet  became  a  highly
                                                                                 traditional  form  in  Chinese
                                                                                 silversmithing.  The  exposing  of
                                                                                 roots and showing the stems to
                                                                                 be  planted  on  a  mound  is  also
                                                                                 rich  in  allegorical  significance.
