A more juxtaposed style could not be
                                                                            found  when  comparing  the  Khe
                                                                            Cheong  coffee  pot  [below]  with  the
                                                                            ewer.  My  own  personal  view  is  this
                                                                            may  have  started  life  as  a  lidded
                                                                            tankard which was yet another of Khe
                                                                            Cheong’s signature items. Because of
                                                                            an  engraved  inscription  on  the  pot,
                                                                            we are able to date this to 1851.





































            A  silversmith  who  was  capable  of
            creating  masterpieces  in  such  an
            eclectic  mix  of  styles  can  only  be
            regarded as a highly accomplished
            master  of  his  art.  Chinese  retail
            silversmiths  had  total  control  over
            what  was  produced  under  their
            individual marks. Khe Cheong was
            one of the greats
