TIAN XING [AKA: TIEN HING; TIANG HENG]
135, Arab Street, Singapore.
Zhang Jia Wan, Tong Zhou District [Tungchow], Beijing
circa 1850-1925
This is one of the most unusual of Chinese Export silversmiths but one renowned for some extremely high
quality work, as this wine ewer [below] demonstrates, similar in style and quality to one housed in the Royal
Collection at Osborne House, Isle of Wight, UK
Tian Xing was also a known maker of Peranakan silver, hence its Singapore base [see following illustration]
which was in the historic part of Raffle’s Singapore master plan as well as being the centre of the silver trade.
The large mark also states “Shi Zu Wen Yin” [100% PURE SILVER]; a term regularly used in Beijing and Hebei
Province for silver purity standard.
