TIAN XING DE [aka: DA XING DE]
Beijing
circa 1910-1940
A mark found on silver
items with painted enamel
and champlevé decoration
that indicates they were
made predominantly for
the Chinese market and
possibly for the expatriate
Chinese market.
It is a very definitive style
and wholly different to
mainstream Chinese
Export Silver. To the
Western eye, it can even
appear slightly gaudy.
Items do tend to appear at
auction that are invariably
mis-catalogued or simply
referred to as “unknown
maker”.
Beijing, historically, was
[and still very much is] the
centre for enamelwork in
all its forms in China.
