Filigree card cases of this quality almost all were originally sold
with a custom-made box that included a shaped inner form
inside the box that protected the card case from moving and
becoming damaged. However, this is the first recorded box that
was made in lacquer ware.
The reverse side of the card case is quite
unusual, having a central shaped framed
cartouche of finely woven silver mesh
with an applied raised work outline
decorative motif.
