210 | BONHAMS Each crane finely cast and enamelled with one leg
slightly raised and resting on rocks, their long necks
slightly curved, with long beaks and red crest, the
body with a dense pattern of gilt wires, the wings
with small turquoise and large dark greyish-blue
feathers similar to the tail feathers, wood stands.
Each overall 76cm (29 7/8in) high (4).

A CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL ‘BAJIXIANG’ SHRINE
Cyclically dated to Wuxu year, corresponding to
AD1898 and of the period
The sectional pavilion raised on a waisted lotus
pedestal ending in a scalloped edge, the hexagonal
body set with an arched door surrounded by six
columns and fences above a border of scrolling
lotus enclosing a six-character inscription, enamelled
throughout with the Eight Buddhist Symbols
reserved on a turquoise ground, the sloping roof
with raised ridges terminating with gilt dragon
heads, beneath an bud-shaped finial covered by a
coin-shaped opening, decorated with polychrome
designs of two writhing dragons contending a
flaming pearl on a bright yellow ground.
