A LARGE BLUE AND WHITE
ROULEAU VASE
KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722)
The vase is well painted in rich purplish tones of
underglaze blue with a pheasant standing on an
outcropping of rock amidst fowering branches
of peony, magnolia and crab apple, all below a
ruyi collar and dot band on the neck.

The combination of peony and magnolia form
the rebus yutang fugui, a phrase implying wishes
for wealth and high oficial rank.
