A PAIR OF HONGMU-FRAMED EMBELLISHED LACQUER WALL PANELS
THE FRAMES 18TH CENTURY, THE EMBELLISHMENT 18TH-19TH CENTURY
Each panel of shaped rectangular form is embellished in jade, hardstones and wood with four cranes,
each grasping in its beak one of the attributes of the Eight Daoist Immortals, the cranes shown in fight
above a scene of a pavilion nestled amidst rocks and trees including pine and fowering and fruiting
peach, all on a lacquer ground of greyish-pink color. The black lacquer reverse is decorated with numerous
gilt-highlighted cranes in fight amidst gilt clouds. Each section of the hongmu frame terminates in fnely
carved curved leaves, and has an inner key-fret border, the two lower leaf-shaped terminals joined by
a key-fret and braid band.
