A LARGE LONGQUAN CELADON JAR AND COVER
YUAN-EARLY MING DYNASTY, 14TH-15H CENTURY
The heavily potted jar is carved with four quatrefoil panels enclosing the characters jinyu mantang (may
you have a prosperous household) separated by a panel of a fruiting lychee branch and a panel of a fruiting
peach branch, all above a band of narrow petals below. The cover is carved with a band of continuous
peony scroll encircling the small round fnial and the unglazed biscuit body of the interior is molded in the
center with a peony spray. The jar and cover are covered with a glaze of sea-green tone that also covers the
interior and interior of the foot.
