A RARE PAIR OF PAINTED AND GILDED POTTERY FIGURES OF LOKAPALAS
TANG DYNASTY (618-907)

唐 彩繪天王陶俑一對

Each fgure is modelled standing on top of a demon, one of which holds a snake, the other laying on its
back. Both fgures are shown with one hand raised to the side and the other resting on the left thigh. The
layered armour is draped with outer robes all fnely detailed with gilt and coloured pigments. The sleeves
terminate in ferocious dragon-heads.
