A RARE IMPERIAL MOTHER-OF-PEARL-INLAID ZITAN CHEST AND STAND,
GUANPIXIANG
KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722)

清康熙 紫檀螺鈿壽紋官皮箱

Each of the two front doors are intricately decorated with nine mother-of-pearl kui dragons, forming a
stylised shou character. The sides of the cover are similarly inlaid with mother-of-pearl, depicting one
further shou character to the front and four monster masks to the corners. The drop-in tray to the top has
three compartments, above four short drawers and one long drawer with gilt-bronze foliate handles. The
gilt-bronze hinges to the sides of the doors and the back of the cover are exquisitely detailed with lotus
blooms and dense leafy scrolls. The escutcheon and the ruyi-shaped lock plate to the front, which attaches
the cover to the two doors, are also decorated with lotus designs. The zitan stand is carved with ferocious
lions, fower heads, lappets and stylised archaistic scrolls, supported on four claw feet.
