The present lot is based on a bronze ritual
wine vessel, hu, the prototypes of which
appear from the Shang Dynasty (13th-12th
century BC) onwards.

The box delicately carved with floral
and foliate designs, the pale stone with
creamy mottling; the plaque carved with a
blossoming prunus branch roundel within
a ruyi motif border, the reverse with two
apertures for fastening, wood stand.
