TWO SATSUMA VESSELS AND COVERS
By Kinkozan, Meiji era (1868-1912),
late 19th/early 20th century
Each decorated with enamels and gilt
all on a blue ground decorated with
fragmented geometric and floral motifs, the
first of European shape, with two rounded
rectangular panels enclosing a family fishing
by a river and a warriors seated in front of a
jinmaku (war curtain) around a Shinto ritual
warding off bad omens, signed on the foot
with seal Kinkozan, 18cm (7 1/16in) high;
the second of squat and compressed form,
with two shaped panels, depicting a family
gathered around a hibachi (brazier) and the
other of three shirabyoshi (court dancers)
entertaining warriors at a battle camp, signed
on the base Kinkozan within a fan-shaped
cartouche; 10.2cm (4in) high. (4).

A SATSUMA THREE-LOBED DISH
By Kinkozan, Meiji era (1868-1912),
late 19th/early 20th century
Decorated in enamels and gilt, the dish
divided into three trays and decorated with a
continuous garden scene depicting a cockerel
and hen foraging for food beside a cherry
tree and butterflies hovering over flowering
peonies and hagi (bush clover) growing
behind bamboo fences, the sides with
repeated karakusa (‘Chinese grass’) sprays on
212 a blue ground; signed on the base with seal
Kinkozan tsukuru beneath an impressed seal
Kinkozan. 1.7cm x 19.5cm (5/8in x 7 5/8in).

(INCENSE BURNER) AND COVER
Meiji era (1868-1912),
late 19th/early 20th century
Decorated in enamels and gilt, the body
with four large leafy sprays of stylised cherry
blossoms on a black ground, the silver-metal
cover pierced with a profusion of entwined
branches of peony, wild chrysanthemums and
plum blossoms; unsigned.
