                                                              A YELLOW AND PALE RUSSET JADE POMMEL
                                                              SONG-MING DYNASTY (AD 960-1644)
                                                              The raised center of the thick, circular pommel is carved with a
                                                              whorl motif and surrounded by an outer feld of bosses within a grid
                                                              pattern, the sides are upright above a lower section that tapers to the
                                                              fat bottom encircled by a deep channel and pierced in the center
                                                              with a bull-nose perforation. The creamy yellow stone has an opaque
                                                              area on one side and some areas of pale brown and pale russet color
                                                              at the edge and on top.
                                                              18 in. (4.9 cm.) diam.

          carved on the tapering sides with central T-scrolls, and the top is   明    玉雕仿古劍飾兩件
          pierced with a central deep hole fanked by bull-nose perforations.
