A PALE GREYISH-GREEN AND BLACK JADE ‘BUDDHIST LION’ GROUP
17TH-18TH CENTURY
The group is carved as a Buddhist lion holding in its jaws one trailing end of the ribbon
tied around the brocade ball clutched between its front paws, and with its head turned
to look at the cub lying on top of its back. Both the adult and the cub have curly brows
and fnely detailed hair markings on the mane and tufted tail. There is some opaque
ivory-color alteration to the stone.
