A MOTTLED DARK GREENISH-GREY
AND BROWN JADE ARCHAISTIC POURING VESSEL
MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)
The cup of oval section has deep sides that fare slightly at one end of the rim to form a spout
and are carved with three registers of archaistic scroll designs, the upper register on one side
incorporating the wings of the phoenix that forms the handle, while the reverse is carved in
high relief with two confronted chilong, all above the countersunk base.
