                           A PALE GREYISH-GREEN JADE OVAL PLAQUE
                           18TH-19TH CENTURY
                           The convex plaque is carved in relief with an elephant standing on clouds with its head turned
                           to the side between two bats suspending ribbon-tied wan emblems, its back is draped with a
                           tasseled blanket decorated with a shou character and supports a basket flled with peony stems.
                           The semi-translucent stone is of even pale grey-green color.
                           3æ in. (6 cm.) wide
                           $6,000-8,000

                           PROVENANCE
                           Lizzadro Collection, Elmhurst, Illinois, acquired prior to 1960.
                           All of the elements of the design of this plaque may represent the auspicious phrase
                           wan xiang sheng ping, “may peace reign for ten thousand years.” The two bats double
                           this blessing.
